Competition at the steam coal market in Europe is growing

During the past year spot prices on steam coal in Europe were decreasing. It was the consequence of general economic recession in the region, and also increased offer from major suppliers. USA, Canada and SAR attracted significant coal volumes to the European market, this extremely negatively influences positions of Russian exporters.
Structure of steam coal suppliers into Europe

What will happen to freight-flows from Kuzbass?
By the mid of 2012 market prices on steam coal in Europe dropped by level utmost acceptable to suppliers from Russia. Economical reasonability of Kuzbass coal shipments towards North-West direction comes to minimum. Big probability exists that in the nearest perspective Russian suppliers will be forced to decrease their presence in Europe significantly.

Export cost price – steam coal supplies into Europe

Eastern Europe: perspectives of railway export

Export share of Russian steam coal into countries of Eastern Europe composes about 25% from total volume of supplies to European market. These shipments are mostly performed via land border passages. At the background of current decrease of market prices, changes of railway tariffs and flat rates at export and transit routes becomes even more urgent matter for the CIS exporters.
